Counting Down

Alexandre is leaving a week from today. :o( But I'll be home in 18 days!

Today we went downtown to get some batteries for Alexandre's camera. The illegal copyright-infringement shopping area in our city has been institutionalized and given a building, and the sellers have been given numbered, air-conditioned booths, probably after paying some new taxes. The city allows them to sell illegal pirated knock-offs brought in from Paraguay, and, in turn, they pay a little extra to the city. Everybody wins! Right? ;)

I have just over 2 weeks of work left; I'll be hopefully/ideally planning my schedules for the new semester over the next few days; I'm trying to come up with ways to entertain myself for 11 days without Alexandre OR the internet (since he's taking his laptop with him, and some of you may remember that mine broke a few months back). I plan to make myself elaborate meals, play with the cat, detail-clean the apartment, rent movies, and try not to go crazy. If you have any other ideas, let me know.

I'll also have about 24 hours by myself with Alexandre's parents, who are very graciously taking me to the airport before I leave. If you guys have any idea of talking points, that would be even more helpful, because it could easily become awkwaaaard.... What do parents like talking about?

I don't have much else to talk about. I'm mostly updating this so Nanny doesn't have to look at the last post anymore. :oP

See you soon!

  1. 18 days. Hip hip horray. I say read. You probably haven't done any reading for plain enjoyment in a while. My suggestion with the parents, just be yourself. They already like you. Talk about work, their work, talk about Alex, talk about your family and how excited you are to see all of us. Talk about the election and their opinions on it. You won't be awake that whole 24 hours you're with them. Don't worry about it too much. Can't wait to see you.
    Love and miss you,
    Mom
    XOXOXOXOXO

Say Hi to Alex for me. :P

  2. Thank you dear. oh how sad you must feel with Alex going in 10 days but he'll probably be back before you so he has to entertain himself and HOPEFULLY miss YOU. You can try getting some sleep too. with regards talking to his parents. it's not like you are strangers now, so just talk about anything that comes into your head , especially about Alex.and how proud you are of him and how hard he studies. they'll love that ,He's their son. also if you notice any plants or trees etc on the ride you might tell them if you particularly like them and if they know the names of some of them. You have often said it really pretty but I dont know what its called. You'll find something, think you're talking to us. Hope you get your schedule worked out okay. :pve yo both xoxoxoxo

  3. With no offense to Nanny’s or your Mom’s suggestions, BUT………

Your request brings me back to summer vacation with nothing to do. Hahahaha Isn’t that what ALL kids say. “I’m bored, there’s nothing to do”.

*** Side note to you and Danette – “Choose an Activity” ***

I have put on my thinking cap and you could: 1) Make a bubble gum chain - Juicy Fruit wrappers are the best 2) Build a sugar cube mission (ask your mom for pointers) 3) Weave a pot holder using a shoebox and yarn 4) Make a snake out of play dough 5) Bake cookies from scratch 6) Rag Curl your hair, then try to make it look good (that’s the challenge) 7) Floss your teeth 8) Color 9) Skip, or gallop if you can’t skip 10) Jump rope 11) Do a puzzle 12) Sing in the shower – Mariah forever. Or my personal favorite 13)Dance naked

If you do not like those ideas you could always boobie trap the apartment for when Alex gets home. Only downside, you will not be there to laugh at him.

As for Alex’s parents… From my personal experience, I find people love to talk about themselves regardless of how entertaining they are. BUT what they love MORE is to talk about their childhood (as long as it was not abusive). You could ask them what their life was like growing up. How things have changed. What their parents were like. What they did for work before the jobs they are now in. I had a friend from the Philippines who would go to the bakery at 5 in the morning to get rolls, and then go door to door selling them before she had school. She was only 10. Crazy Huh. But very interesting.

I hope that I have been of some help to your problems. Or at least put a smile on your face.

We love you and can’t wait to see you

Ashleigh went in this morning to have her wisdom teeth taken out. She doesn’t have internet access but can get messages on her phone from AOL. Maybe you can send her a message of well wishes.

Love to you both – Have a safe trip Alex

  4. I never made a sugar-cube mission. I made mine out of a Parkay butter container and two steak distinguishers (the ones the used to put in the steaks that said Med or Well for those that remember) from Sizzler. It was crap. I got a C. I deserved an F.
