Beach

Just a quick internet café post (prepare yourself for accent apostrophes) to let you all know that we made it to the beach apartment.  Everything´s going well, even despite the tiny porportions of our new place. We are being sooooo creative with our little space and the fact that a huge apartment is being crammed into a small one. Alexandre´s moving bonus from the military is definitely helping make our creativity (TALL SHELVING) financially possible. Oh, and we´re also just turning the in-laws´ house into an extra storage unit. Haha. I´ll put up pics once we´re all done and once I have internet at home again.

My grandad passed away yesterday, which is kind of putting a damper on my happy ´´I moved to the beach!´´ mood.  But Alexandre and I went out and had a piece of cake in his honor, and sat at the beach for a while and talked about nice memories. I´m trying to stay positive and focus on all the good things that are also happening. The last thing my grandad would´ve wanted would´ve been for me to stop and mope, or ´´let the grass grow under my feet,´´ as he liked to say.

Moving during Carnaval has made it difficult to find people willing to work, to do things like set up our internet/telephone or install our ceiling fans. But it´s hard to stay mad when there´s ocean everywhere you look.

But everything´s so beautiful, the cat is happy (and was a WONDERFUL car traveler!), and I have plenty of translation work to keep me busy (and paid, luckily!).

More soon!

  1. So sorry about your grandfather. Cake in his honor sounds like a really great idea. Mine would have loved that too.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. He would not have wanted you to be sad, though, at this time in your life. It's probably good that you have your new place to distract you, even if it makes the move that much harder.
I've been away from good internet for a while so I'll have to catch up with your posts. I can't wait to hear about your new place and see some pictures!
    Much, much love friend.

  3. Dear Danielle,

I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I am glad he was in the peace and quiet of his home and your grandma had some more time to spend comforting him.
It's great that you are enjoying your new inspiring Ocean views and new town, new life. I wish you guys all the best in this new chapter of your lives together.

  5. Thanks for the review!! I'm very sorry about your grandfather... I'm glad you got to make it back to the U.S. a bit before the move. Tell Alex I say hi and have fun on your unpacking. (You know I would!!) The part about Gatinha made me smile :)

  8. I echo everyones sentiments and I am so glad you were able to see him one last time! Coming from someone literally on their way to the hospital to say goodbye and it was too late, that last moment is oh so lucky! Cheers to cake!

  9. I am so sorry to hear about your Grandfather but thought going out for cake "celebrating his life" was a great idea...I am sure he would have approved...
Once you get everything squared away in your new apartment I think things will be better - besides once you step outside and see that beach, you will just smile!
I wish you both lots of happy memories, new friends, and fun in your new home! Take care!

  11. I made a shutterfly photobook for him that's being sent to nanny's when its printed.

Also how nice that gathina is a good traveler. When I took zuul to moms house, he yowled at ear-splitting volume for two straight hours and I had to pull over 3 times cause he pooped everywhere, repeatedly. By the time I got there I was a crying wreck as I washed him.
